I am a dedicated lawyer, local advocate, and candidate for the NH House of Representatives, committed to shaping policy that serves the Portsmouth community and beyond.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
NH PUBLIC DEFENDER | 1982 – 1994
  • Staff Attorney & Office Manager: Represented indigent clients across all case types from juveniles to felonies
  • Homicide Defense Unit: Handled over 50 homicides and tried 10 cases in the central office
  • Appellate Defender: Managed over 40 appeals in the New Hampshire Supreme Court
UNH SCHOOL OF LAW | 1994 – PRESENT
  • Professor of Law: Over 32 years teaching Criminal Law, Evidence, and Genetics & Law.
  • Associate Dean, 200-2022

  • Director, Trial Advocacy Program, 1994 - 2024

  • Published Scholar: Authored law review articles on genetic privacy, DNA cases, and social justice
  • Chair, ACLU-NH Board, 2010 - 2017

    • Hired current Executive Director; Helped manage the transition of the organization from 3 to 8 full-time staff

  • Member, ACLU National Board, 2006 - 2013

    • Chair, patents & Civil Liberties Committee that lay the groundwork for ground-breaking litigation in the U.S. Supreme Court

  • NIH Research: Co-Investigator for Genetics, Law & Ethics Program at Dartmouth​
